The debate mediated by Dr Camilo Soler, attempts to expand the themes raised by 'Samka meets Neo Norte' meditative performances at Bloomsbury Festival.Dr Camilo Soler, with his expertise in anthropology and dance will delve into the performances which are the result of a series of workshops inviting migrant audiences to share their journeys through embroidery, movement and music.
The panel aligns with this year’s Bloomsbury Festival theme ‘humankind’ as the performances bring Shamanic Andean rituals to London, to celebrate intuition and the ancestral cultural values of humankind in the Global South. 'Samka meets Neo Norte' has compiled a series of ancestral indigenous values which invite contemporary communities to yield for more sustainable ways of living. The project offers a space where less represented communities can experience traditional Andean rituals, which can help them sharing and celebrating their migration journeys as part of humankind experience.
The panel will include as speakers Tere Chad, artist and Neo Norte (New North) curator; Samka Bolivian duo made by Andoro del Trueno (multidisciplinary artist) and Andrés Vargas (musician); and Dr Estrella Sendra, researcher specialised in festivals in the Global South.
The panel will take place on Thursday 17th October, 6 – 7.30pm at Bush House (S) 2.02, Strand Campus, King’s College, London, WC2B 4BG (Closest Tube Stations: Temple and Holborn).
