Biographical details

Dr Espinoza is a Visiting Research Associate in the Department of International Development, within the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy at King's College London. She is an Ecuadorian early-career researcher studying gender-based violence, the normalization of VAW in Latin America, and people's interaction with legal systems. Her PhD thesis – titled 'Cuesta arriba y siguiendo el chaquiñán. Indigenous women's path through violence in plurilegal Ecuador' – examines how indigenous women navigate the formal coexistence of the state legal system and indigenous justice when trying to confront cases of intimate partner violence in Ecuador. Dr Espinoza also participated in the arts-based research project Imaging Social Justice, which explores narratives, experiences and representations of indigenous women in public and private spheres using photography. Since last year, she is a member of the Editorial Collective of the blog Feminist Perspectives.
