Research interests

Professor Simester works primarily in criminal law and criminal-law theory, with wider interests in general legal philosophy including the law of obligations. His main PhD supervision interests lie in theoretical criminal law.

Biographical details

Professor Andrew Simester took up the Edmund-Davies Chair in Criminal Law at King's College London in August 2015. He also holds the Amaladass s Chair in Criminal Justice at the National University of Singapore, and an Honorary Doctroate from the University of Uppsala in Sweden. A graduate of the Universities of Auckland and Oxford, Andrew has also taught at the Universities of Birmingham, Nottingham, and at Cambridge, where he remains Honorary Research Fellow at the Institute of Criminology. Andrew’s main interests lie in the fields of legal philosophy and criminal law, and he has published in these areas across every major common law jurisdiction. Perhaps best known for his treatise (with Bob Sullivan) on the criminal law of England and Wales, he has written two other books and edited a number of essay collections in criminal law theory.
