Biographical details

I received my PhD in Sociology from the Department of Social Science, Health and Medicine, King’s College London (under the supervision of Profs Ilina Singh and Nikolas Rose). In my PhD, I looked at the diagnosis of attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in Portugal based in ethnographic and archival research.
I am currently a research fellow in social science at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a lead editor on a forthcoming volume on Global ADHD.

Research interests

I have a long-standing interest in health and medicine, and a particular interest in their epistemic, normative and sociopolitical dimensions.
My research focuses on issues related to diagnosis and clinical practice, mental health, and experiences of health and illness both in terms of specific national settings (e.g. Portugal and the UK) and global health regimes/conditions (e.g. ADHD and mental health).
With a strong commitment to interdisciplinary approaches and social theory, I am also interested in contemporary debates in the fields of sociology of diagnosis, medical anthropology, and science and technology studies.
