Biographical details

Dr Annette Rid is a Senior Lecturer in Bioethics and Society at the Department of Social Science, Health & Medicine at King's College London. She also is an Affiliated Research Fellow at the Institute of Biomedical Ethics, University of Zurich and a member of the working group to revise the 2002 CIOMS / WHO International Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects.

Dr Rid studied medicine, philosophy, and history at the University of Freiburg i. Brsg. and at the University of Paris. She obtained her doctorate in medicine for a thesis in experimental electrophysiology (summa cum laude). Dr Rid received her habilitation in biomedical ethics at the University of Zurich, after having trained in bioethics at the Department of Bioethics, U.S. National Institutes of Health.

In the past, Dr Rid worked as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Ethics, University of Zurich; as a clinical ethicist (part-time) at the University Hospital Zurich; as a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Department of Bioethics, National Institutes of Health; as a Senior Ethics Fellow at the World Health Organization’s Ethics Department; as a Pediatric Resident in neonatal intensive care at Charité University Medicine Berlin; and as a Scientific Coordinator for the Parliamentary Commission on “Ethics and Law in Medicine” in the German Parliament.
