Antonio is a qualified medical doctor and an epidemiologist. He trained and specialised in Neuroendocrinology and in Public Health Medicine. He lectured and carried out clinical and public health research at Imperial College London, at UCL (University College London), and at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine before moving to King’s College London in 2017. Antonio is the founder and CEO of Epistata – Agency for Clinical Research and Medical Statistics.
Antonio’s research interests cover several themes:
Clinical research
Psychosomatic Medicine: Antonio studies the neuroendocrine and neuroimmune dysfunctions triggered by mental stress. Those alterations may lead to cardiovascular disease, cancer, autoimmune disease, and other conditions that can be acute or chronic, communicable or non-communicable.
Biomarkers: Antonio studies the mediators of the mind-body relationship. These include endothelial, haemostatic, inflammatory, hormonal, and immune factors.
Risk assessment: Antonio studies cardiovascular risk assessment using high-sensitivity cardiac troponins.
Randomised Controlled Trials: Antonio was involved in the the study design, data analysis, and result interpretation of clinical trials in various clinical specialties, e.g. Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Psychopharmacology, and Otolaryngology.
