Research interests

Dr Murphy’s research interests lie in public law, counter-terrorism law, EU criminal law and justice, and the relationship between law, power and violence. The Arts & Humanities Research Council, the National University of Ireland, and the Modern Law Review have supported Dr Murphy’s research. In Summer 2012 he began a British Academy-funded project on comparative counter-terrorism law. In Spring 2013 he will be a Fulbright-Schuman Scholar at Georgetown University Center on National Security and the Law and New York University. A selection of his research can be found on SSRN. His current research projects include:

  • ‘Law and Power in Transatlantic Counter-Terrorism Co-operation’ supported by the Fulbright Commission.
  • ‘A Critical Comparison of Material Support Law in the EU and US’ funded by a British Academy Small Research Grant.
  • ‘Explicit Judicial Dialogue and Human Rights Law’ supported by the Centre of European Law.
