Emma Bielecki

Dr Bielecki's research focusses on the literature of the long nineteenth century in France, and its intersections with other forms of cultural expression, including material culture, early cinema and stage magic. Her first book, Representations of the Collector in Nineteenth-Century French Literature: Representation, Identity, Knowledge, was published in 2012.  She is currently working on a project on the role of Vidocq -- thief, fraudster, recidivist... and founder of the world's first detective police -- in the French cultural imaginary. 

She has published articles on Baudelaire, Flaubert, Daudet, as well as a series of articles on the detective serials of the Belle Epoque. 

Dr. Bielecki received her BA in English and French from the University of Oxford in 2003, before moving to King's College London to pursue doctoral research.  Following the award of her PhD, she spent three years as a lecturer at Oxford, before taking up her current post.
