Biographical details
George received a first-class BA degree in English Literature and Language from King’s College London. He then undertook an MPhil in Irish Writing at Trinity College Dublin and returned to King’s to complete an AHRC funded PhD. Before joining the Liberal Arts Department in 2016, George taught and lectured in the English and History Departments at King’s.
George’s interdisciplinary research examines capitalism through the conjoined perspectives of historical geography, critical theory and cultural production. These interests are reflected in publications on Kae Tempest and Neoliberalism; Racial Capitalism and London’s West India Docks; and Urban Planning in Northern Ireland.
George’s first monograph, Northern Ireland and the politics of boredom: conflict, capital and culture (Manchester University Press, 2018), explores the capitalist critiques underpinning representations of sectarian conflict in photography, literature, architecture and punk. He is now beginning a new project on the intersection of capitalism and political violence in London.
