Joseph Tomlinson

My area of research is administrative law and justice, i.e. how administrative power is structured, how administrative decisions are made, and the processes through which individuals and groups challenge administrative acts (e.g. internal review systems, tribunals, judicial review). Beyond its obvious links to administrative law, my interest in administrative justice intersects with many other related fields, including comparative public law, constitutional law, constitutional theory, legal theory, political theory, human rights, social security law, immigration law, and access to justice.

The administrative justice system is vast. I have, in recent years, decided to focus my attention on particular areas. I have developed five main focus areas: administrative justice at a macro/theoretical level; technology and administrative justice; evidence and administrative justice; Brexit and administrative justice; and immigration and administrative justice.
