Student mental health; Public mental health; Improving access to evidence-based treatments; One-day CBT workshops. Depression.
As only 30% of people with mental health problems seek help, a major research interest is help-seeking for mental health problems in the community. I have developed and evaluated day-long CBT workshops for the general public which have proven effective in a number of RCTs. The adult model of day-long workshops has been adapted for adolescents as well as for women for post-natal depression.
I am currently evaluating a large clinical trial of day-long workshops for 900 16-18 year olds in 60 schools.
Within these community interventions, I am very interested in health inequalities and developing interventions to attract under-represented groups into the workshops and mental health interventions generally. These groups include ethnic minority groups as well as males.
I am also very interested in co-production and have been working with Citizens UK and evaluating a co-produced intervention for mothers.
