Research interests

Dr Campbell’s research has been in the areas of jurisprudence and criminal law. In jurisprudence his doctoral research was on the concept of rights, and this has continued to be an interest. He has also written on such topics as the nature of legal fictions, the unity of concepts in law and morality, and custom as a source of law. In criminal law he has written on such issues as conditional intention, the legal test of dishonesty, and the distinction between offence and defence elements in crime. He is currently working further on this last issue, and on problems about the English legal position on appropriation in theft.
