Liam Mason

My direction of travel for research incorporates both my doctoral work investigating reward dysregulation in bipolar disorder as well as my post-doctoral research into the functional neurobiological mechanisms of psychological interventions. Drawing on my background as a clinician, I integrate neuroscience models and approaches with theory and practice in clinical psychology with the ultimate view of developing future interventions. I am currently combining these research and clinical streams by examining the interface between reward dysregulation and affective instability, primarily in bipolar disorder.

I am a highly specialist clinical psychologist currently working within a national and specialist service for psychosis, where I am the acting lead for the bipolar disorder pathway. I am also a visiting researcher and honorary clinical lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN).

After completing my BSc in Psychology and Neuroscience in 2007, I worked as a Psychological Therapist in one of the first IAPT services in the UK. In 2012 I was awarded my PhD which investigated the psychological mechanisms of impulsivity and risk-taking in bipolar disorder using cognitive neuroscience approaches. I then completed my training in clinical psychology at the IoPPN, qualifying in 2015.
