Research interests

My research focuses on cognitive bias in medical decision making. Specifically, I investigate whether, how and why physicians might grow biased in their evaluation of patient data during diagnosis. I employ an experimental paradigm to explore the causes, characteristics and consequences of such ‘predecisional information distortion’, attending also to the participant variables (e.g., personality, demographic) and/or task variables (e.g., information acquisition, response mode) that may exacerbate or mitigate it.

I work with a view to determining whether debiasing strategies are possible (if indeed, necessary) at the level of clinical training or decision support. I enjoy working within a multi-disciplinary environment that allows me to apply psychological theory to clinical practice.
