Research interests
I’m investigating statistical methods for characterising air pollution mixtures for analysis in time series health studies. Specifically, I am interested in methods for analysing high-dimensional data, and in estimating health responses to simultaneous exposure to multiple pollutants. This will feed into the MRC NERC funded Traffic Pollution and Health project and will ultimately contribute to the understanding of the differential harmful effects of air pollution components. Currently, I’m focusing on Bayesian and nonparametric Bayesian modelling. My doctoral research is supervised by Dr. Gary Fuller, Dr. Richard Atkinson and Prof. Nicky Best.
My academic and professional background has involved application of statistical methods in a number of different fields and epidemiological analysis. I obtained a MSc in Biostatistics and Experimental Statistics from the University of Milan-Bicocca (year 2009), and a MSc in Epidemiology from the Catholic University of Rome (year 2004). Before that, I received a degree in Political Science (curriculum Sociology) and a post-degree specialization in Sociology of health. My previous areas of work and research have included cancer epidemiology, disease mapping, health services research and meta-analysis. From 2009 my research interests have focused on environmental statistics.
