Biographical details

Dr. Ori Herstein joined King’s College London in 2012. He obtained his Doctoral and Master’s degrees from Columbia University Law School and his LL.B. and undergraduate philosophy degrees from Tel Aviv University.  While at Columbia, he wrote his doctoral dissertation under Professor Joseph Raz and held the position of Associate-in-Law.  Upon obtaining his doctorate and prior to entering academia, Dr. Herstein spent two years in private practice as a litigation associate at the NYC office of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP. He also clerked on the Tel Aviv Circuit Court. He was admitted to the New York Bar and the Israel Bar.  As of 2014, Dr. Herstein is also a permanent member of staff at the Law Faculty at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.  Dr. Herstein has held visiting professor appointments at Cornell University Law School, Harvard Law School, and Peking University’s School of Transnational Law.

Research interests

Dr Herstein’s primary research interests include moral and legal philosophy and private law theory. He has been published on topics including historic and intergenerational justice, the theory of rights, responsibility, negligence, feminism, standing, equity, and tort.
