Dr Garciandia’s research interests are in public international law, including the law of State responsibility, international human rights law, migration and refugee law, anti-corruption law, the law of international organisations, EU law, international economic law and development law.

Dr Rosana Garciandia is Lecturer in Public International Law at King’s College London. She conducts research on the international law response to human rights abuses, including torture, racial discrimination, violations of socio-economic rights, and all contemporary forms of slavery. Her focus is on the responsibility of States and businesses, and on the potential of existing mechanisms to ensure their accountability for human rights abuses. She is also a Research Fellow at the British Institute of Iinternational and Comparative Law and a Fellow of the Macrocrimes Center of the University of Ferrara. 

Rosana has held positions in various international organisations. She served as the Secretary General of the European Law Institute in Vienna. She has also worked at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and at the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights. She has developed research for the UN Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Slavery and for the European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights (EP DROI Subcommittee).

Dr Garciandia joined the Dickson Poon School of Law in 2018 after having acquired extensive experience working at those international organisations in the areas of EU Law, human rights and international anti-corruption law. She was previously Lecturer in Public International Law and EU Law at University of Murcia in her native Spain, where she acquired strong research and teaching experience. She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Navarra.

Her publications include articles on human rights and corruption (EP DROI Subcommittee, September 2021), on state responsibility and positive obligations (Leiden Journal of International Law, March 2020), and on state responsibility for modern slavery (International and Comparative Law Quarterly (with Philippa Webb), July 2019), among other topics, as well as an edited book on human dignity and international law (with Philippa Webb and Andrea Gattini), Brill, 2021), and monographs on fragile states in international law (2013) and on the international law applicable to external debt (2011).
