Scott completed his undergraduate degree at UCL where he graduated with a first-class honours degree whilst supervised by Professor Claire Maxwell. After UCL, Scott pursued his Masters degree at the University of Cambridge where he was supervised by Professor Pamela Burnard. Scott then went to research for his PhD with Dr Ruth Adams at Kings College London where he was funded by the London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership funded by the ESRC. Scott’s research draws on the conceptual frameworks of French social theorist Bourdieu where he explores the lived experiences of state-schooled students journeys to elite music conservatoires.
Whilst at Kings, Scott has taught on the undergraduate programmes in policy and politics whilst also contributing to postgraduate degrees in the faculty of social science and public policy. Scott has also worked as a researcher House of Lords, All-Party Parliamentary Group for Creative Diversity where he co-authored a chapter in the Creative Majority report.
Outside of Kings, Scott serves as the Lead Policy Officer for Education and Skills in the Education Strategy Unit at the City of London Corporation. Whilst working for the City of London, Scott has brought a wealth of new knowledge and changed policies in the wider education landscape, publishing nationally acclaimed toolkits and reports whilst working in collaboration with Charities, UK Parliament and Think-Tanks. He is also a Trustee for a charity in Bristol and in 2020, was appointed as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
