Personal profile

Biographical details

Dr Vincent Giampietro is a Reader in Neuroscience & Digital Education at King’s College London. By background, he is a computer and biomedical engineer, but considers himself to be a jack of all trades neuroscientist. He has a keen interest not only in neuroscience research, but also in psychology and educational research, with a love for science communication and public engagement.

He initially came to King’s as a student, and never left. He has always had a split job, first working in IT whilst doing his PhD and being a junior academic, and now spending half his time co-directing the team responsible for curriculum and digital innovation within his faculty, and that covers technology enhanced learning, learning design and media production, both for on-campus and online courses.

On the research side, most of his career has focused on the development of functional neuroimaging methods and on their applications in health and in disease, but he is currently diversifying and is getting more involved in educational research, principally focusing on entrepreneurial cognition and neurodiversity in higher education.

Dr Giampietro created and ran for 10 years the now defunct King’s MSc Neuroimaging, that continuously received excellent year-on-year feedback / student satisfaction and for which he was nominated every year for teaching awards (he finally obtained one in 2014). At present, he is leading a popular module in Neuroscience & Society for the King’s BSc Neuroscience & Psychology, and he is also teaching in many undergraduate and postgraduate courses at King’s and beyond.

Other education leadership responsibilities include being the education lead for the Department of Neuroimaging and the Chair of the Faculty Online Assessment Board.
