Personal profile
Research interests
My research interests lie at the confluence of health communication, digital health interventions, and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). I am particularly focused on leveraging digital media, computer science, and online communication strategies to influence public health practices and outcomes. My work aims to provide sustainable, evidence-based solutions that enhance patient health outcomes and reduce healthcare disparities.
In my doctoral research at King’s College London, I explored the diabetes narratives presented by key social media influencers in the UK. This interdisciplinary project utilized mixed methods, including social network analysis, thematic analysis, and online surveys, to investigate how these narratives affect audience knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours. This study has deepened my understanding of the potential of digital platforms to disseminate public health information and engage diverse audiences.
Beyond my PhD, I have actively participated in several significant research projects. One such project examined the risk factors of obesity in Chinese populations, employing an integrated approach that combined literature reviews, expert consultations, and both quantitative and qualitative research methods. This research provided critical insights into the multifaceted factors contributing to obesity in different age groups, supporting societal efforts to address the obesity epidemic in China.
Another area of my research includes analysing global health promotion strategies through the lens of major international conferences. This work involved a comprehensive review and systematic examination of conference declarations and reports, offering evidence-based recommendations for enhancing global health initiatives and fostering international cooperation.
I am also passionate about the intersection of health communication and policy. My research on the impact of celebrity weight loss narratives, such as those of Chinese actress Jia Ling, investigates how public figures can influence health behaviours and public health awareness. This project aims to develop effective communication strategies that harness the power of social media to promote healthier lifestyles and improve public health outcomes.
Overall, my research is driven by the goal of integrating interdisciplinary approaches to solve complex public health challenges. By combining theoretical frameworks from sociology, media studies, and health communication with innovative digital tools, I strive to advance our understanding of how to effectively communicate health information and influence positive health behaviours in diverse populations.
