Abstract

In December of 1962, a scandal broke in Thessaloniki. The director of the Municipal Foundling Home of Thessaloniki, named Saint Stylianos (Δημοτικό Βρεφοκομείο Θεσσαλονίκης «Άγιος Στυλιανός»), was arrested and charged with falsifying children’s records and taking bribes. This article discusses the 1964 trial, the evidence and the most damaging testimonies, and also the repercussions of the adoption trade associated with the institution's postwar years.
