Abstract
This chapter discusses two primary facets of supporting an enhanced application adaptation. The first is network enhancements: in particular, enhancing the interaction between network and application. Second, the chapter discusses how to apply the enhanced interactions to vehicle-to-everything use cases. The chapter provides an overview of 3rd Generation Partnership Project mechanisms for supporting application adaptation and discusses some approaches to application adaptation presented in the literature. It focuses on enhancements to application and network interaction. The chapter presents and analyzes several options for joint use of short- and long-range links. Several options envisioned to design a redundant scheduler are described, depending primarily on the target protocol layer of the OSI model or following the European Telecommunications Standards Institute intelligent transportation systems architecture example.
