Abstract
This chapter discusses the role and contribution of English construction law in the international construction market. It begins by surveying the Technology and Construction Court’s jurisprudence to show that international construction contracts commonly include choice of law clauses favouring English law. It further analyses distinct substantive and procedural advantages offered by English law specifically in the construction context, inquiring if they will survive Brexit. Second, it analyses how legal concepts of English construction law influenced other common law jurisdictions and international construction contracts. The final part of the chapter investigates the international impact of the payment and adjudication provisions of the UK Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 as an inspiration for equivalent legislation or procedures in other common law jurisdictions.
