Abstract
In this letter, a cooperative Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) scheme for cognitive radio networks with full duplex capability is proposed. Cognitive system takes advantage of opportunities arising during the primary’s ARQ rounds for transmission of cognitive data whilst cooperating with primary network at the same time. The performance of this method has been investigated for ARQ and Hybrid ARQ (HARQ) modes, in terms of data link layer Packet Error Rate (PER) and the primary and secondary throughputs, and its effectiveness is verified via simulations. It is shown that activity of the secondary network during primary’s retransmission rounds does not affect primary's performance in ARQ mode, and would even improve primary’s throughput in HARQ mode.
