'Information War': The Russian strategy that blends diplomacy and war

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

To demonstrate how Russia blends military and non-military means to achieve its political goals, the chapter analyses two different cases: the Kremlin’s decision to introduce economic counter-sanctions (a non-military mean) and its intervention in the Syrian conflict in 2015 (a military means). It concludes by arguing that while these are seemingly unconnected, in fact, they constitute Russia’s strategic way of conduct in international relations – ‘Information War’ – that blends war and diplomacy.
