Ingenuous Entertainment and Reveries: Music in some English Country Houses in the Late Eighteenth Century

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

On the basis of archival research into seven country houses in the north of England it is shown that there was not only a vastly different array of musical practices, but that in the best cases such social-historical research contradicts an established view that young women engaged in music were merely whiling away their time before marriage.
