Abstract

Strong links between women and men’s health before pregnancy and maternal and child health outcomes have been demonstrated to have consequences across generations. Poor nutritional status among women and men of reproductive age, including underweight, overweight, and obesity, is becoming more common. This chapter describes the epidemiology of weight disorders, makes connections between weight and health outcomes for women and children, and describes strategies for addressing this critical issue.
