Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of potential network enhancements that can facilitate or improve the delivery of connected automated driving and connected road user services. The solutions presented expanded on infrastructure solutions such as slicing, software-defined network, network function virtualization, and cloud radio access network to bring more flexibility and agility to network design, to network procedures that create more optimal data paths, and, finally, to system-level solutions that support multi-operator connections during long-distance commutes. The chapter presents an overview of the work performed in the domain of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) network systems and architecture, including these areas of architectural enhancements that shape the fundamentals of flexible and agile V2X communication networks. It focuses on cellular V2X while some of the technical solutions have a broader applicability.
