Stages of Theatre: From the Greeks to Shakespeare (CD-ROM)

Research output: Non-textual formDigital or Visual Products

Abstract

The ideal scholarly introduction to the history of theater design, this CD-ROM uses state-of-the-art graphics to provide an informative, interactive tour spanning 1,500 years, from the earliest “empty space” of the Greeks to the modern format of the proscenium arch theater. Each of the major eras—Greek, Roman, Medieval, Italian Renaissance, and Elizabethan—is explored through highly accurate depictions of more than two dozen exemplary theater sites. Users can take a 3-D “fly-through” of The Odeon of Agrippa, an earthen theater in Cornwall, the Globe Theatre, and the Teatro Farnese or click on a menu to view woodcuts, paintings, and photographs of additional historic stages from the ancient world through the Renaissance. Available for Windows only.
