Abstract

This chapter explores the contribution which wargames can make to academic studies of conflict, the respective advantages of manual and computer wargames, the challenges of teaching wargame design skills, the practical obstacles and trade-offs facing academic use of wargaming, and the stigma and scepticism which can often be harder to overcome.
