Alexandra Budjanovcanin

Ali Budjanovcanin is a lecturer in Work Psychology and Public Sector Management. Her research interests sit broadly in the areas of careers and leadership. More specifically, Ali studies the implications of occupational choice across the career lifecycle (studying occupational regret and other indicators of career adjustment) and is particularly interested in professional careers. She also researches organisational leaders to understand how they can more effectively enact their roles in the face of a changing world (e.g. the rise of e-leadership; hybridity in public organisations) and has applied her research in the design of leadership programmes within the executive education and coaching she delivers. Ali’s expertise in leadership and careers spans both public and private sector settings.

Ali contributes to several programmes within the Business School, lecturing primarily on leadership for executive audiences, and at masters and undergraduate levels. She has designed and delivered impactful leadership modules at all levels contributing to the MSc Public Policy and Management and BSc Business Management. She is a Programme Director for professional and executive education within the business school, on the Emotional Intelligence for Leadership and Leadership and People Management programmes, as well as on custom leadership development offerings.

Ali holds a certificate in coaching from Birkbeck University and is a Certified Emotional Intelligence Practitioner (EQ-i 2.0 & EQ 360) and NEO test user – all of which she practices in her executive education role.

Ali has worked with a broad range of institutions including: the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, the Church of England, Women in Law London, the UK Atomic Energy Authority, and the NHS. She has been published in leading journals including International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior. Work Employment and Society and British Journal of Industrial Relations, as well as featuring in industry journals including the Pharmaceutical Journal, HR Magazine and The Law Society Gazette.

Her research has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust and she is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Ali joined the Business School in 2011 after receiving her PhD from King’s College London and works within both the HRM and Employment Relations and the Public Services Management and Organisation research groups. Prior to joining King’s Business School, Ali worked as a Senior Research Associate in the NIHR funded King’s Patient Safety and Service Quality Research Centre, where she investigated ways to improve patient care, focusing on workforce issues in the NHS.
