Biographical details

Eloi Ribe graduated from King’s College London in 2009 (MA Public Policy and Ageing) after completing a masters degree in Labour and Social Policy in the EU at the University of Barcelona, and undergraduate degrees in Political Sciences and Sociology in Barcelona and Brussels. With a background in Sociology, Social Gerontology and Public Policy, his research interests include intergenerational and social family care practices, public pension reforms in Europe, poverty and exclusion of elderly people and transforming social care arrangements for elderly dependent individuals.

Eloi is a researcher on a Calouste Gulbenkian funded project examining the involvement of grandparents within family life and the structuration of grandparenting in 10 European countries. His research is concerned with the intergenerational organisation of family and care policy settings in a comparative perspective to determine under what circumstances and to what extent grandparental practices are encouraged, supported or assumed and their implications on family and care practices.

He is also involved in a project funded by the Technology Strategy Board assessing alternative forms of long-term care for dependant elderly people in a comparative perspective. It particularly explores the potential of assistive technology to promote independence and place the older person centrally as their own ‘curator’ of care.
