Biographical details

Dr Karalliedde is a Clinical Senior Lecturer, School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences, King's College London and Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Internal Medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital London.

He graduated with a distinction in medicine from the University of London and after obtaining his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of London he worked in Professor Giancarlo Viberti’s Unit at Guy’s Hospital London as a Medical Research Council Clinical Research Training Fellow.  Dr Karalliedde was awarded a PhD by the University of London for his research on cardiovascular and renal disease in diabetes. 

He has published widely on the subject of diabetic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease and lectures on this topic at national and international meetings.  Dr Karalliedde has been awarded research grants from the UK Medical Research Council, Diabetes UK, European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes, International Diabetes Federation and Industry for investigator led proof of concept clinical trials. His research is focussed on developing new therapies and treatment targets to reduce cardio-renal disease risk and complications in patients with diabetes.

Dr Karalliedde is an active clinician, with expertise in managing patients with renal and cardio-vascular complications related to diabetes. He leads and runs specialist clinics for patients with diabetic renal and vascular complications at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital. He has also established community diabetes clinics for patients with diabetes and cardio-renal disease in South London designed to provide specialist multi-disciplinary care to patients closer to their homes and primary care providers.
