Research interests

Since retiring from the National Audit Office, Tom has undertaken research as part of the ESRC Growing Older Programme - Older Men: their social worlds and healthy lifestyles; and a Nuffield Foundation study - Older People and their Families: Autonomy and Decision-Making in Later Life. Between 2005 and 2007 he acted as Outreach Officer for the ESRC Survey Link Scheme - http://qb.soc.surrey.ac.uk/sls.htm. In February 2008 he joined the Institute of Gerontology to work on the two year study: Older Couples and the Management of Household Money.  He also tutors part time on Social Research Methods and Computer Technology at Surrey University.

Qualitative research and secondary analysis of the lives, interests and finances of older people.
