Mathematical modelling: Providing valid description or lost in translation?

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference paper

Abstract

With a focus on ‘translation’, we will discuss elements of a language of
description that captures a range of strategies and criteria deployed in
setting up a mathematical model and demonstrate its usefulness for
analysing and evaluating school mathematical modelling activities. We
see this as part of a larger project of exploring mathematical modelling
and its recontextualisation in school mathematics.
