Dr Chiappini investigates the biointerface blending nanotechnology, bioengineering and cell biology to develop functional materials that direct cell behaviour.

Dr. Chiappini current research focuses on developing mesoporous silicon nanomaterials for regenerative medicine and cancer. He has conceived and developed porous silicon nanoneedles, capable of intracellular interfacing leading to neovascularization in animal models. He is currently exploring the nanoneedle biointerface and developing them for intracellular drug delivery and sensing. Further research activity focuses novel  multifunctional nanoparticles that combine therapeutics and imaging in cancer. 

 

Biographical details

Dr. Chiappini is Lecturer in Nanomaterials and Biointerfaces in the Deparment of Craniofacial Development and Stem Cell Biology. Following a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2011, he joined Imperial College London as a  and has been Newton International Fellow and later as a Marie Curie Fellow.
