Abstract
This is an introduction to Christabelle Roca-Rey's book 'La propaganda visual durante el gobierno de Juan Velasco Alvarado (1968-1975)'. The introduction places the results of Roca-Rey´s studies within the atmosphere of fear that has accompanied the discussion on national identity and Andean political upheavals since mid-20th century to current times. This texts put emphasis on the rol played by the visual and the ways in which Roca-Rey has managed to present a clear struggle between verbal and visual discourses during a key political moment in 20th century Peru.
