Research interests

B cells and secreted antibodies (immunoglobulins) are essential for host defence during infections; they constantly edit the elements of immunoglobulin genes during B-cell development and immune response to achieve the maximally tailored antibody protection against specific antigens. These editing mechanisms continuously shape the landscape of antibody repertoire and record, within immunoglobulin genes, the biomedical information concerning the B-cell development and antibody response pattern. My research focus is to delineate and characterise normal and pathogenic antibody responses by thoroughly profiling the cellular and genetic components of B cells.   

I employ next-generation sequencing and microfluidics systems in combination with state-of-the-art bioinformatics to probe B cells in projects including
(1) MRC/GSK Alliance: Local and peripheral B cell responses in experimental rhinovirus (common cold) infection in asthma (exacerbation);
(2) IgE developmental pathways in allergic and healthy humans and in the elderly;
(3) Role of bone marrow-resident B cells in the homeostasis of long-term IgE memory in asthma and allergy;
(4) Lab-on-a-chip, microfluidic analysis of single B cells.
