Abstract

On Ultramodernities and Their Contemporaries unfolds multi-directional routes for the reflection on the cultural process of modernisation in Peru. It covers a time period that goes from the mid-1920s to the last years of the first decade of the current century. It proposes a reticular reading of poetics, theories, literary and artistic practices of intellectuals, writers and artists such as Héctor Velarde, Emilio Harth-Terré, Xavier Abril, Emilio Adolfo Westphalen, José María Arguedas, Luis Miró Quesada Garland, Jorge Eduardo Eielson, Sebastián Salazar Bondy, Fernando de Szyszlo y Blanca Varela, and of aesthetic and political positions such as those expressed by the magazines El Arquitecto Peruano, Espacio and Las Moradas, marked by the thinking and production of figures such as Piet Mondrian, Le Corbusier, Norman Macleod, Ezra Pound and Yves Klein.
