Extending psychiatric genomics to identify related and relevant biology

    Biographical details

Following my undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences, I joined the Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry (SGDP) Centre as a MSc+PhD student, working with Thalia Eley and Gerome Breen on genomic methods to study gene-environment interplay. As part of that, I performed the initial genome-wide association studies on cognitive behavioural therapy response in anxiety. I then joined Prof Breen's group as a postdoctoral researcher, working broadly in psychiatric genomics, but particularly on depression and its relationship to comorbid traits. Since January 2020, I am a Lecturer in Statistical Genetics at the SGDP, where I will focus on translating statistical genetic findings from psychiatric research to understand related and relevant biology.

    Research interests

    • The application of polygenic risk scores to biological phenotypes and to the study of individuals
    • The integration of biological data to inform conclusions from statistical genetic methods
    • The genetic epidemiology of psychiatric disorders, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder
